This system simultaneously assembles the deodorant container's screw, base and platform pieces. The assembly system consists of four basic elements; a feeder system for each of the three parts (feeder, prefeeder and conveyor), and continuous motion assembly turret.
Parts are bulk loaded into the prefeeders and metered into the centrifugal feeders on demand. The centrifugal feeders gently load, singulate and orient the parts and discharge them onto the accumulation conveyors. The properly oriented parts are then presented to the assembly turret.
During infeed to the assembly turret, the screws are placed into a nest at the lower level of the turret and finger guides hold the stem of the screw. Platforms enter, and are picked off a dead plate by a vacuum head on the upper level of the turret. Bases enter the turret and are held in place by grippers, directly above the screw, but below the platform. Once all three parts are in the turret, a spinhead shaft (where the screw sits) begins to rotate and the platform and base are cammed downward over the screw. The guide fingers holding the stem of the screw release, the screw dial shaft engages the spinhead, causing the the screw to push up through the base and thread through the platform. once the parts are fully threaded, the bell on the bottom of the screw snaps together with the base cavity. The pieces are now locked together and held in the center of the tooling module by the base gripper fingers. The system also incorporates inspections for the presence of all three parts and whether the platform is fully lowered. The completed and inspected assemblies then exit the turret to the downstream operations. |
